Crowd-pullers Big Bullets are tipped to sneak into the Standard Bank Knockout Cup as they currently lead the votes.

The People’s team is far ahead with 272 votes whereas Epac and Red Lions are joint second with 24 votes each.  Coming third is Azam Tigers with 23 votes.

Bullets is so popular on the domestic scene that its votes are four times more than what the other teams.

Standard Bank marketing head Chimwemwe Matonga said the voting exercise, which started on July 25, will end tomorrow (August 7) ahead of the draw that will be held on Friday in Blantyre.

The four teams with the highest votes will compete in the preliminaries to determine the two teams that will join top six clubs that qualified based on last season’s Super League standings.

“Voting has been overwhelming and the majority of the forms are finished,” said Matonga.

The votes are cast by the bank’s customers and others carrying out transactions at its various branches.

Bullets chairperson Kondi Msungama thanked those who voted for the team, but urged others to follow suit.

“We have many supporters that are also Standard Bank customers and I urge them to go and vote. We should not take anything for granted, things do change at the last minute,” said Msungama.

Defending champions Mighty Wanderers, Silver Strikers, Moyale Barracks, Mafco, Kamuzu Barracks and Blue Eagles earned automatic participation.

Wanderers beat Silver for the second year running last year to defend the cup which was introduced in 2007.
